AceShowbiz - George Clooney has praised Taylor Swift for using her platform to raise people's awareness about the upcoming presidential election. The actor spoke on the pop superstar's endorsement of Kamala Harris when attending the premiere of his new movie "Wolfs" with his co-star Brad Pitt in Los Angeles on Wednesday, September 18.
In a video shared by AP, the "ER" alum was asked what he thought about Swift's support of Harris. "It was beautiful. What a beautiful thing to do," he said on the red carpet as Pitt stood next to him.
"And, you know, she's a real phenomenon right now and it's exciting to see all these young people really engaged in sort of the national discourse," the 63-year-old actor/filmmaker added as Pitt nodded in agreement. "I think it's exciting and so I'm very excited to see her engaged."
Speaking to Variety's Marc Malkin, Pitt also echoed Clooney's optimism about the upcoming presidential elections. "I'm feeling very hopeful," Clooney said, before his co-star and longtime friend chimed in, "Feeling hopeful." Clooney explained, "Momentum is a big deal, so I'm feeling hopeful."
Swift publicly showed her support of Harris following the VP's debate with Donald Trump. "Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight," she wrote on Instagram. "I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election."
The 34-year-old singer/songwriter went on to explain her decision, "I'm voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades."
Meanwhile, Clooney made headlines in July when he wrote an op-ed in The New York Times, urging President Joe Biden to end his campaign following his performance in the presidential debate against Trump. "We are not going to win in November with this president," he wrote about Biden then.
After Biden dropped out of the race and passed the torch to Harris, the "Money Monster" star praised Biden's selflessness and threw his support for Harris. "President Biden has shown what true leadership is," the actor said in a statement. "He's saving democracy once again. We're all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest."
