AceShowbiz - Lil Wayne has broken his silence on the controversial Super Bowl Halftime Show announcement. A few days after Kendrick Lamar was revealed as the artist to headline the big event, the "Lollipop" hitmaker, who is also famous as Weezy, shared his response on the matter.
In a video uploaded on Thursday, September 12, the 41-year-old hip-hop artist expressed his disappointment for not being selected as the headliner for the sports event. He said, "First of all, I wanna say forgive me for the delay," noting that he needed time to share his thoughts "without breaking."
Weezy went on to say, "I want to say thank you to every voice, every opinion, all the care, all the love," adding that the "support" he has received "held me up" when he was about to "fall back." He admitted, "That hurt, hurt a lot," before calling the announcement "a let down."
The spitter reiterated, "It hurt a lot. But y'all are f**king amazing. It made me feel like s**t. And when I felt like s**t, you guys reminded me that I ain't s**t. That's an amazing reality. So, like I said, it broke me. And I'm just trying to put me back together but my God have you all help me."
Weezy further stated, "Thanks to all my peers, my friends, my family, my homies ... I really appreciate that. I really do. I felt like I let all of y'all down by not getting the opportunity. But I'm working on me. So, thank you."
The statement came less than one week after the NFL announced Kendrick as the headliner for the upcoming Super Bowl. On Sunday, September 8, the league revealed that the "Not Like Us" hitmaker is set to perform on February 9, 2025 at the iconic Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
In the wake of the announcement, many famous artists, including Master P and Nicki Minaj, have voiced their support for Weezy. K.Dot was chosen as the headliner despite Weezy's desire to perform at the Super Bowl in his city.
