AceShowbiz - Lenny Kravitz, 60, took home the award for Best Rock Video at Wednesday's MTV Video Music Awards for his song "Human". In a heartfelt moment, he dedicated the honor to his late mother, Roxie Roker, who passed away from cancer at age 66 in 1995.
"Wow, this is incredible," Kravitz expressed in a preshow interview on MTV. "Thirty-one years ago, my mother was with me at an award show, the VMAs, so I dedicate this to her."
Kravitz, who has always had a close bond with his mother, brought Roker as his date to the 1993 MTV Video Awards. Roker was best known for her role as Helen Willis on the sitcom "The Jeffersons".
In his acceptance speech, Kravitz also thanked his manager, publicist, and director Joseph Kahn, who helmed the "Human" video. He expressed his gratitude for the incredible journey that brought him to this moment.
Kravitz's win marked a return to the stage where he and his mother shared a special connection years ago. In a social media post last week, he reminisced about that moment, "Having my beautiful mother by my side at my first #VMAs 31 years ago is a moment I will always cherish."
Beyond his musical accomplishments, Kravitz is set to launch his Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM in October. The residency will be "a celebration of life, music, love, and rock 'n' roll," according to Kravitz. He sees his artistry as that of a painter, using sound as his medium.
"I play whatever I have to play," he explained. "I feel like I paint; I'm a painter."
