AceShowbiz - Hoda Kotb, the beloved "Today" show anchor, has a deep understanding of the emotional journey that Selena Gomez is navigating after the latter revealed she's unable to carry her own children. Kotb shared her own experience with infertility before welcoming her daughters through adoption with ex-fiance Joel Schiffman.
Speaking on the Tuesday episode of "Today with Hoda and Jenna", Kotb expressed her admiration for Gomez's candidness and maturity in sharing her story. "I think it was something that she always dreamt that would happen," Kotb said. "You know how you kind of write your story in your head? 'I'll get married sometime here or there or at this age, and then I'll have kids,' and you can kind of imagine it?"
Kotb acknowledged the profound sense of loss that comes with coming to terms with infertility. "I think that was probably the toughest part, is like, you know that you can see it," she said.
However, she also praised Gomez's resilience and determination to explore alternative paths to motherhood. Kotb recalled Gomez's plans for surrogacy or adoption, emphasizing that "Families come in so many different shapes and sizes" and that a child's connection to their parents is unbreakable, regardless of how they entered their lives.
Gomez's medical history includes a lupus diagnosis in 2013, a bipolar disorder diagnosis in 2018 and a kidney transplant in 2017. Despite these challenges, she has expressed hope and excitement about the possibility of becoming a mother through surrogacy or adoption.
"I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me," Gomez told Vanity Fair. "It made me really thankful for the other outlets for people who are dying to be moms. I'm one of those people."
