The upcoming Peacock workplace comedy, set in the same universe as the original show, has added Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young to its cast.

AceShowbiz - Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei and Ramona Young have joined the cast of the upcoming Peacock workplace comedy from "The Office" co-creator Greg Daniels and "Nathan For You" co-cretor Michael Korman. The news broke after the Palisidian-Post in Pacific Palisades, Calif., reported that the three actors had been shadowing staff at the newspaper to prepare for their roles.

The series had previously cast Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore as two of the primary employees at its central business, a failing Midwestern newspaper relying on volunteer reporters. The connection to the Office-verse comes in the series' framing - the media workplace will be captured by the same fictional documentary crew that covered Dunder Mifflin on the original American series for nine seasons.

Gregg has appeared on shows like "Snowfall", "American Vandal" and "Nine Perfect Strangers". Frei previously acted on shows like "Sideswiped", "The Last O.G." and "The Cleaning Lady". Young starred in movies like "Blockers", "Unpregnant" and "Wendell & Wild".

Unlike the original U.S. series, which was set at a fictional paper-selling company called Dunder Mifflin, the new show is set at a newspaper. The series' logline reads, "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."

Greg Daniels, who handled the original series, is back developing the show with Michael Koman. Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who created the original U.K. version of the show, are also on board as executive producers.

Since the new "The Office" series is set in the same universe as the beloved NBC show, the door is presumably open for past Dunder Mifflin employees to cross over onto the new show. It's unclear whether the forthcoming series will opt to fulfill that potential, but several prior cast members have maintained their connection to the original show. Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey have hosted the "Office Ladies" recap podcast for nearly five years, while Rainn Wilson, Craig Robinson, Kate Flannery, Brian Baumgartner, Creed Bratton and Fischer recently reunited for an "Office"-themed AT&T commercial.
