AceShowbiz - Peta Murgatroyd has made the decision to take a break from "Dancing with the Stars" for its upcoming season. The two-time Mirrorball Trophy champion announced the news during an Instagram Live on Thursday, August 29, saying, "In terms of me, 'Dancing with the Stars, guys, I'm sorry, it's not this season. It's just too soon."
Murgatroyd welcomed her third child, Milan, with husband Maksim Chmerkovskiy, just over a month ago on July 12. She said that while she has returned to the show after previous pregnancies, she needs to take some time off to adjust to her growing family.
"I actually really, really wanted to come back," Murgatroyd said. "But physically, I'm not up to par." She also expressed a desire to be present for her children, saying, "I chose family over work this time."
Murgatroyd has competed as a professional dancer on "Dancing with the Stars" for 15 seasons, winning in seasons 14 and 22 with partners Donald Driver and Nyle DiMarco, respectively. She most recently partnered with Barry Williams in season 32, which she began filming just 10 weeks after giving birth to her second son, Rio.
While she will not be competing this season, Murgatroyd expressed support for her fellow pro Witney Carson, who is returning after taking last season off. "So happy for her," Murgatroyd said. "She's come back after two kids, and I think she's gonna absolutely shine this season."
The "Dancing with the Stars" season 33 cast will be exclusively announced on September 4 on "Good Morning America." The season premieres on Tuesday, September 17, at 8 P.M. ET on ABC and Disney+.
Artem Chigvintsev is being sidelined amid news that he was arrested for domestic violence. Meanwhile, Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik became the first celebrity confirmed to vie for the Mirror Ball this season.
