AceShowbiz - Jenna Ortega's sudden rise of fame following her role on "Wednesday" has come with its downsides. In addition to being targeted in explicit AI images, the actress has made headlines for various reasons, including the wild dating rumors with Johnny Depp.
In a new interview with Buzzfeed, the 21-year-old dubbed the speculation about her alleged relationship with the veteran actor the "craziest" rumor about her. "Probably that I was in a serious relationship with Johnny Depp, and I wanted everybody to leave us alone," she said in "The Puppy Interview" video released on Monday, August 26.
"It's so insane to me. Like, I never spoke on that. I never said anything like that. Articles really do just make up their own quotes, but I thought that that was pretty hilarious," she said while sitting down on the floor and playing with adorable puppies.
The rumors piqued her co-star's curiosity as she recalled, "I was on set with Richard E. Grant, and he came up to me and he just said, 'Oh, so you and Johnny?' And I laughed because I... I don't know that person," she said of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise star.
The dating rumors floated around the Internet last summer after DeuxMoi reported that the two were spotted on a date. Jenna was quick to debunk the reports, saying in a since-deleted post, "This is so ridiculous I can't even laugh. I have never met or worked with Johnny Depp in my life. Please stop spreading lies and leave us alone."
Johnny, who is 40 years older than Jenna, also quashed the rumor, saying in a statement via his rep at the time, "Mr. Depp has no personal or professional relationship with Ms. Ortega whatsoever. He has never met her or spoken to her. He is not involved in any project with her, nor does he intend to be. He is appalled by these baseless and malicious rumors that are intended to harm his reputation and career."
