AceShowbiz - James Gunn had a special treat for DCU fans on the weekend. To mark 83 years since Jimmy Olsen made his official DC Comics debut, the "Superman" writer and director unleashed pictures of Skyler Gisondo's version of the character.
One image was posted on X, formerly Twitter and the other on Instagram. The 28-year-old actor could be seen wearing the same costume we saw in set photos.
"Happy Anniversary to Superman's pal, Jimmy Olsen, who debuted on this day in 1941 (although he did appear earlier as 'office boy' in Action Comics 6)," James wrote in the Sunday, August 25 post. "Created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster & Bob Maxwell. I can't wait for you to see @SkylerGisondo's portrayal in #Superman on July 11, 2025. @dcofficial @superman."
"Superman" reboot, originally titled "Superman: Legacy", promises to delve into Superman's journey of reconciling his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing in Smallville, Kansas. The official synopsis describes Superman as the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by "human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned."
The film, which will officially launch the new DC Universe, boasts a stellar cast including Maria Gabriela de Faria, Nathan Fillion, Anthony Carrigan, Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover and Pruitt Taylor Vince, among others. Fans won't have to wait too long as the movie is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
As for Skyler, he is best known for roles several movies such as "Licorice Pizza, Booksmart and Vacation. The actor also stars on TV series like The Righteous Gemstones and Netflix horror show Santa Clarita Diet.
Last week, Isabela Merced, who portrays Hawkgirl in the upcoming film, shared a message to fans about what they can expect from James' efforts. "The whole movie is very loyal to the comic books but with a James Gunn twist. I really think it's funny, it's clever, it's heartwarming... at least, that was my experience on set," she shared on the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast.
"Obviously, things can change in the editing room but... God, I loved James," the actress continued. "He's so prepared. I could exhale on set and didn't need to worry about exhaling after because James is one of those people who knows exactly what he wants, will stop at nothing to get it, has a shot list, communicates with his team, and they're all prepared when they get there because they've worked with him for twenty plus years."
