AceShowbiz - Halsey has given fans a special treat ahead of her fifth studio album. On Thursday, August 15, the singer unleashed a new rock song titled, "Lonely Is the Muse", which sees her lamenting feeling used and undervalued.".

"I spent years becoming cool/ And in one single second you can make a decade of my efforts disappear," the 29-year-old sings in the opening verse. "I'm just waiting at the bar and you rip open all my scars/ By saying something like, 'Didn't know you were here.' "

In the chorus, Halsey opens up about changing to please others. "I always knew I was a martyr and that Jesus was one too/ But I was built from special pieces that I learned how to unscrew," she sings. "And I can always reassemble to fit perfectly for you/ Or anybody that decides that I'm of use."

In the second verse, the mom of one expresses her frustration about being defined by her romantic partners. "So, where do I go in the process when I'm just an apparatus?/ I've inspired platinum records, I've earned platinum airline status/ And I've mined a couple diamonds from the stories in my head/ But I'm reduced to just a body here in someone else's bed," she chants.

"Lonely Is the Muse" followed Halsey's latest single, "Lucky". The "Closer" hitmaker dropped the tune, which interpolates Britney Spears' 2000 hit song under the same name, on July 26 alongside its Y2K-themed music video.

The interpolation of "Lucky" carries personal significance for Halsey. She shared in an Instagram post earlier that month, "When I was five, it always felt like Britney was singing directly to me. 24 years later, these words hit different. love you forever."

Prior to that, Halsey released "The End", on which she opens up about her health struggles. Over the past year, the recipient of the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame's Hal David Starlight Award has been candid about her diagnoses with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder.
