AceShowbiz - On a dazzling Tuesday night, August 13, Hollywood glittered as the stars aligned for the premiere of Amazon MGM Studios' highly anticipated comedy "Jackpot". Set to make waves, both on-screen and off, this film promises a unique mix of humor, action and a dose of dystopian thrill.
On Tuesday, Awkwafina, John Cena and Simu Liu walked the red carpet at the TCL Chinese Theatre to celebrate the Paul Feig-directed comedy. Awkwafina dazzled in a sparkling gold dress, while Cena opted for an eye-catching orange blazer and bright blue pants. Liu complemented their looks with a navy blue suit.
John Cena expressed his gratitude for Paul Feig, crediting him for creating a fun and energetic atmosphere on set. "Paul Feig starts with the philosophy that comedies are fun," Cena told PEOPLE. "He's got jokes for days, but he doesn't sacrifice laughs at the heart of it all."
According to the film's synopsis, "Jackpot" takes place in the near future where a "Grand Lottery" is established in California. The catch? Killing the winner before sundown allows the hunter to claim their multi-billion dollar jackpot. Katie Kim (Awkwafina) finds herself in possession of the winning ticket, and she must team up with lottery protection agent Noel Cassidy (Cena) to survive the hordes of hunters. However, their efforts are threatened by Katie's rival, Louis Lewis (Liu).
Awkwafina shared her perspective on the film's message, "I think it basically depicts a world in which people are just a little bit more greedy than they already are."
"Jackpot" boasts a tagline of "You can't win if you don't play," and it is written by Rob Yescombe. Feig, the film's director, expressed his excitement about the project, calling it "the Jackie Chan movie I always wished I could make."
The highly anticipated "Jackpot" will begin streaming on Prime Video on Thursday, August 15.
