AceShowbiz - Weston Coppola Cage, son of renowned actor Nicolas Cage, found himself in legal trouble once again after his recent arrest on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the 33-year-old turned himself in on Wednesday, July 10, at the 77th division station in Los Angeles and was subsequently released on a $150,000 bond. The charges are directly related to an altercation that took place on April 28, 2024.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Christina Fulton, Weston's mother, detailed the disturbing events of that day. "On April 28th, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends of my son, Weston Cage, regarding his deteriorating mental state, urging me to come help," Fulton said. "When I arrived to offer support and console him, he was already in the midst of a manic rage. Within minutes, I was brutally assaulted and sustained serious injuries."
Fulton further alleged that despite her urgent pleas, the responding police officers did not detain Weston for a mental-health evaluation. The LAPD confirmed that the arrest was indeed linked to the April 28 incident, in which Weston allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation that quickly escalated into physical violence at Fulton's home.
"During the incident, Cage punched two victims multiple times, causing injury," the police reported. The case was forwarded to the district attorney's office on May 10, with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon being filed against Weston on June 26. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued.
Christina Fulton expressed her deep concern over her son's well-being and stressed the need for immediate mental health intervention. "As a mother, I am deeply saddened and concerned about Weston's ongoing mental-health crisis. It is imperative that he receives the help he desperately needs," she stated.
Weston Cage has had a history of legal and substance abuse issues, including a DUI and hit-and-run arrest in 2017. Despite these troubles, Weston had previously expressed optimism about his recovery journey, largely motivated by the birth of his first son. "Having the combination of [now-ex] Danielle and Lucian and my father in my life, just that trinity right there, basically is going to keep me here," he shared in an interview with PEOPLE.
A representative for Weston has not yet commented on the recent developments. Weston continues to pursue a career in music and acting, having appeared in several of his father's films, most recently in 2024's "The Night They Came Home."
