AceShowbiz - Marvel Studios' "Deadpool & Wolverine" will be the first R-rated "Deadpool" movie to release in China, reportedly with minimal cuts, when it opens day-and-date with the U.S. on July 26. With Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman leading the charge, the film promises to maintain the irreverent humor and audacious tone that fans adore.
During promotions across Asia, including a stop at the 2024 Waterbomb Festival in Seoul and a 1,000-seat theater in Shanghai, fans were treated to 35 minutes of new footage. This sneak peek, which featured Deadpool and Wolverine variants from the multiverse, elicited constant laughter and applause, reinforcing that the essence of Deadpool hasn't been lost in translation.
Ryan Reynolds, addressing the Shanghai audience, teased that the film is packed with surprises yet to be revealed. "There's so many surprises in the movie we don't want the world to start talking about it before people actually get a chance to see it," said Reynolds. Director Shawn Levy echoed this sentiment, urging fans to wait for the full movie experience.
The movie also marks a historical moment as Marvel Studios allows Wolverine to finally don his comic-accurate blue and yellow suit. According to Levy, Marvel Studios' chief Kevin Feige had one condition for bringing Logan into the MCU, "He said, 'Yes, but he wears the yellow. Can he finally wear the yellow?' "
The journey to bring Deadpool and Wolverine together was fraught with challenges, with multiple pitches rejected by Marvel. Reynolds and Levy were ready to put a pin in "Deadpool 3" until a serendipitous call from Jackman changed everything. Jackman's willingness to reprise his role as Wolverine led to Feige's immediate approval, with the one stipulation regarding Wolverine's costume.
Reynolds acknowledged China's approval of the film with minimal cuts, expressing gratitude. "To be able to bring a movie like this over here, and to be able to show it in the way that it is meant to be seen, is an extreme privilege for all of us," Reynolds said. Levy added that working with Marvel allowed them to tell a big story of anti-heroes who are also heroes, while staying faithful to the Deadpool tone.
In addition to Reynolds and Jackman, the film features returning "Deadpool" cast members Morena Baccarin, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and others, with new additions like Matthew Macfadyen as TVA Agent Paradox and Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova. This highly anticipated action-adventure film is exclusively hitting theaters on July 26.
