AceShowbiz - In a candid interview with reporter Kevin McCarthy posted to Instagram on Wednesday, July 3, Eddie Murphy, the 63-year-old comedian, expressed his unique funeral wishes. He humorously suggested that the theme music from his iconic film "Beverly Hills Cop" should play at the event to make people "smile." After reenacting his own acapella version of the jingle, Murphy quickly clarified, "That's just a joke, 'cause I'm never having a funeral."
Instead, Murphy hopes for a more understated farewell. "I mean, I'm gonna die like everyone else. But [my loved ones] know... no funeral. Just let me go quietly." These remarks came during the promotion of his newest movie "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F", the fourth installment in the beloved action-comedy franchise, which debuted on Netflix on July 3.
This film sees Murphy reprising his role as Axel Foley, a Detroit detective who heads back to Beverly Hills to protect his daughter when her life is threatened. The plot revives familiar faces and elements from the original 1984 film, a testament to Murphy's enduring influence in Hollywood.
When asked about being dubbed "the Black James Bond," Murphy humorously responded, "I don't have to be some Black James Bond. I have Axel Foley and he has theme music and everything." This reflects his unique stamp on the industry, having starred in numerous iconic films across different genres.
Murphy's career spans noteworthy comedies like "Coming to America" and its sequel "Coming 2 America", where he plays Prince Akeem, "The Nutty Professor", where he portrays the lovable Professor Sherman Klump, and the "Dr. Dolittle" series. Furthermore, his voice brought life to Shrek's sidekick Donkey, a role etched deeply in pop culture.
Aside from his cinematic achievements, Murphy leads a fulfilling personal life. He has ten children with five women. His eldest, Eric, is 34, and his youngest, Max, is five. Murphy shares children with notable figures, including Australian model Paige Butcher and Spice Girls' Melanie Brown.
At the premiere of "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F", Murphy was seen with three of his children, Bria, Shayne and Bella, along with his firstborn, Eric, who attended with his girlfriend, Jasmin Lawrence, daughter of actor Martin Lawrence.
From a breakout role on "Saturday Night Live" to a celebrated film career, Murphy’s continuous evolution keeps audiences engaged. His recent interview not only sheds light on his personal wishes but also underscores his contribution to the entertainment world.
