AceShowbiz - Steve Carell, the beloved face of NBC's "The Office", recently shared that he won't be returning to star in the upcoming reboot on Peacock. However, he enthusiastically encouraged Domhnall Gleeson to accept the lead role in the new series. The two actors recently worked together in FX's "The Patient", earning nominations for their performances.

Gleeson contacted Carell to seek his opinion on joining the "The Office" spin-off. "He's an excellent actor," Carell said of Gleeson during an appearance on "The Tonight Show." "And he called me and asked, you know, 'Should I do this? Is this something... Did you enjoy it?' I said, 'Of course.' "

Gleeson will headline the spinoff alongside Sabrina Impacciatore, a breakout star from "The White Lotus" season 2. Production is expected to commence in July. Unlike the original show, this iteration will not be a direct reboot or spinoff but rather a new mockumentary centering around a different cast in the same universe.

Greg Daniels, the creator of the American version of "The Office", is co-creating the new series with Michael Koman. According to Peacock's official logline, "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."

While Carell has repeatedly expressed his disinterest in reprising Michael Scott, he remains excited about the new show. "I will be watching but I will not be showing up," Carell clarified. "It's just a new thing and there's really no reason for my character to show up in something like that. But I'm excited about it, it sounds like a great concept."

Whether other cast members from the original "The Office" will make appearances remains uncertain. John Krasinski, who played Jim Halpert for nine seasons, stated, "The truth is I'd do anything Greg Daniels asked me to do."
