AceShowbiz - Bobby Shmurda has alleged that digital streaming platforms (DSPs) and music blogs are hindering his music's success due to his refusal to paint his nails. In an Instagram post, the "Shmoney" rapper asserted, "American DSP and music blogs which they owned as well don't allow real Bodman on playlists because I don't paint my fingers."
Shmurda claims that releasing new music is futile under these circumstances. "Stop asking me to drop music American DSP don't allow real Bodman on playlists because I don't paint my fingers so it's pointless until something is done with the people who own, run, and manage these platforms," he wrote.
Fans responded to Shmurda's claims with mixed reactions. Some blamed his lack of popularity on the quality of his recent music, while others defended him.
Despite the controversy surrounding nail polish in the rap industry, artists like Lil Yachty, Tyler, The Creator and Machine Gun Kelly have incorporated it into their style. However, it is ultimately not a requirement for success in hip-hop.
Shmurda's allegations have sparked discussions about the potential biases and gatekeeping within the music industry. The rapper's feud with Epic Records has also been a topic of discussion. After pleading guilty to conspiracy and weapons possession, Shmurda was sentenced to six to seven years in prison in 2016. He was denied parole in September 2023 due to various violations.
