AceShowbiz - Sean "P. Diddy" Combs reportedly hires a new legal representative to help him amid legal troubles. According to a new report, the hip-hop mogul, who is facing at least eight civil lawsuits, recruits a lawyer who previously represented an alleged Russian spy.
Legal documents, obtained by AllHipHop on Thursday, May 30, reveal that lawyer Michael Tremonte of Sher Tremonte LLP will handle the case against former Syracuse University student Joi Dickerson-Neal. Tremonte's previous clients include Rinat Akhmetshin.
Akhmetshin is a Russian-American lobbyist who sued William Browder for falsely accusing him of being a Russian spy in subversive activities in the U.S. With the help of Tremonte and Sher Tremonte LLP, Akhmentshin ended up having no charges filed against him.
The Sher Tremonte LLP website states that Tremonte's practice encompasses complex commercial disputes, securities and class action litigation, banking litigation, antitrust issues, accountants’ liability and employment law. It's also mentioned that his white collar defense focuses on federal and state criminal and regulatory investigations, covering securities, insurance, and accounting fraud, antitrust violations, improper trading, market manipulation, tax fraud and money laundering.
Dickerson-Neal accuses the rapper of drugging and raping her in 1991 as well as revenge porn. She claimed that Diddy's actions affected her mental health and reputation. Her lawsuit came in the same month Diddy's ex-girlfriend Cassie slapped him with a bombshell lawsuit.
Amid the legal issues, Diddy's close friends and former associates spoke out against him in an article published by Rolling Stone. According to the publication, "out of 300-plus people contacted for this investigation, more than 50 were willing to speak about their experiences. Those who did speak about Combs describe a complicated man with opposing personas."
While Diddy would be seen as "unapologetically driven, generous, and jovial, even silly at times," those "who got close enough to him discovered something darker behind the facade: a menacing figure who desperately wants to be accepted and admired, who uses public declarations of devotion, splashy donations, and boasts that he is 'Brother Love' to hide an undercurrent of alleged abuse and violence." He allegedly beat a label executive bloody for having a romantic relationship with his ex-partner Kim Porter and trying to solicit sex from a woman on his payroll.
In response to the damning report, Diddy's lawyer Jonathan Davis denied the allegations in a statement to the outlet. "Mr. Combs cannot comment on settled litigation, will not comment on pending litigation, and cannot address every allegation picked up by the press from any source, no matter how unreliable," he said.
The lawyer continued, "We are aware that the proper authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and therefore have confidence any important issues will be addressed in the proper forum, where the rules distinguish facts from fiction."
