AceShowbiz - Shanna Moakler has never been one to shy away from speaking her mind, especially when it comes to her children and co-parenting with her ex-husband, Travis Barker. During a recent interview on SiriusXM's "Jeff Lewis Live", the model and former Miss New York USA winner delved into the complexities of their co-parenting relationship, reflecting on years of competing to be the "better parent."
"But I gave up, I was never really trying to compete. I gave that up a long time ago... I was like, 'You win. Like you're the winner,'" the 49-year-old admitted. Married in 2004, the two share custody of their children, Landon Barker, 20, Alabama Barker, 18, and Shanna's daughter from a previous relationship, Atiana De La Hoya, 25.
Moakler acknowledged the challenges that come with co-parenting, especially under the public eye. "It is a topic that I don't think a lot of people have really scratched the surface on and really have a clear understanding and it happens to both men and women. Both mothers and fathers," she explained. Raising children in the shadow of a "very powerful famous person" like Blink-182 drummer Barker, Moakler felt the intense public scrutiny more than her ex-husband.
Describing Barker as a "narcissist" and someone with a "controlling personality," Moakler expressed the difficulty in matching his level of influence and fame. Despite their strained relationship, both prioritize the well-being of their children. "The one thing we've always agreed on is our kids and the best interest of our children," she noted.
Moakler also touched upon her feelings towards Barker's new family with Kourtney Kardashian. Although she had previously voiced her disapproval, she shared a more conciliatory note stating, "I'm happy for him. He's in a good place. The kids love the new baby Rocky... You know my daughter's obsessed with him and sends me cute pictures and stuff." The arrival of Travis and Kourtney's baby boy, Rocky, in November 2023, added a new dynamic to their blended family.
