AceShowbiz - Naomi Watts is still reeling from the loss of her "senseless and tragic" "Feud" co-star, Treat Williams, who passed away at age 71 after a motorcycle accident in June 2023. The 55-year-old actress, who played Babe Paley to Williams' CBS founder William Paley on the FX series, spoke fondly of his gratitude for the role, which he felt was "unbelievable."
"He loved his life and it is senseless and tragic that he's not here," Watts shared. "But also that he's not here to enjoy the accolades, because I know he felt really good about doing it."
Watts recalled that Williams' joy for the role extended beyond the screen, as he would often talk about his family and his happiness. "It's really horrible that he won't get to see this and see us all celebrate his work."
Williams' death cast a shadow over the premiere of "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans", which centers on the feud between Truman Capote and New York City socialites after Capote's thinly-veiled retelling of their dramas in his posthumous novel Answered Prayers.
Despite the tragedy, Watts praised Williams' performance and his dedication to the role, saying that even in their intense scenes filled with "horrific insults," he would "break down" in the tender moments.
"He was filled with gratitude," Watts said. "I feel the gratitude in my 50s to have my hands on that kind of material with such a dynamic woman. He felt it."
"Capote vs. The Swans" premieres on FX on January 31, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu.
