AceShowbiz - Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer behind the blockbuster hit "Top Gun: Maverick" has revealed that a story is in development for a third movie in the iconic action series. However, the fate of the project hinges on the availability of star Tom Cruise and the rest of the cast.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer expressed confidence in the story they have crafted. "I think we have a terrific story," he bragged. "It's just (a question of) how do we get everybody together and how do we get it done."
While acknowledging Cruise's busy schedule and in-demand status, Bruckheimer remains hopeful that a compelling screenplay will pique his interest.
News of a potential "Top Gun 3" emerged earlier this year when Glen Powell, who portrayed Jake "Hangman" Seresin in "Maverick", hinted at "fun stuff" in the works. Powell confirmed ongoing discussions with director Joseph Kosinski, Cruise and Bruckheimer about the project.
While "Top Gun 3" is yet to receive a green light, Bruckheimer is keeping busy himself. The veteran producer is also behind the upcoming film "Young Woman and the Sea", starring Daisy Ridley as Gertrude Ederle, the first woman to swim the English Channel.
Bruckheimer praised Ridley's commitment, stating, "Daisy got in the water, and she trained with these Olympians for almost four months. She filmed in freezing water for 10 to 12 hours a day, for weeks at a time."
The development of "Top Gun 3" is still in its early stages, with no official release date yet. For now, fans can keep their excitement alive while keeping an eye on Cruise's other projects, including the upcoming "Mission: Impossible 8".
