AceShowbiz - Billie Eilish recently released her latest album, "Hit Me Hard and Soft", which she created alongside her brother, Finneas. In an eye-opening interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, the duo opened up about the "big fight" they had during the making of the album. The quarrel centered around the "context and subject matter" of the project, leading to an intense exchange between the siblings.
"We'd been writing these fragments of stuff and I felt... I've been proven wrong over and over, but this was the jag I was on that night. I was like, 'Subject-wise, I'm not being led into what you're actually feeling. And I think that there are real guards up,' " Finneas, 26, expressed.
Billie, 22, revealed her frustration as she was "finally enjoying the process" of songwriting when Finneas became uninterested. She said, "I used to be like, '[I] hate making music, [I] don't want to make it, [I] don't like making it.' It's frustrating. It's irritating. I love having made it. I love performing it. I love when it's good, but I really have always struggled with the process."
The discussion escalated into a heated argument. Finneas urged Billie to "just say how you feel, and let's write a song about whatever you're scared about feeling." This moment was pivotal for them. "It was very interesting because I saw myself in that. I was like, 'I have felt that way and you have always been the thing that keeps the ship moving, and now you feel that way. What does that mean for us? And what are we going to do?" Billie reflected.
Despite their differences, the siblings pulled through, leading to the creation of the album. Released on May 17, "Hit Me Hard and Soft" is Billie Eilish's third studio album, following the massive success of "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" and "Happier Than Ever". The 10-track album is described by Finneas as his "favorite thing I've ever been a part of making," while Billie noted that she and Finneas have "never ever ever loved something more."
Eilish is set to take "Hit Me Hard and Soft" on a global tour, starting in September in North America and spanning across Australia, Europe, and the U.K., concluding in Ireland by late July 2025.
The album-making journey was challenging but ultimately rewarding, revealing deeper truths about their artistic processes and growth. This creative struggle underscores the authenticity and raw emotion that fans have come to love in Billie Eilish's music.
