AceShowbiz - Lionel Richie, renowned musician and father of reality star Nicole Richie, has expressed a mixture of amusement and trepidation regarding his daughter's reunion with Paris Hilton for a new reality show streaming on Peacock.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight after the "American Idol finale, Richie quipped, "They're older, but they haven't changed, trust me. Those two scare me just standing next to each other." He recalled being the "first guinea pig daddy" who witnessed the antics of Hilton and Richie during their original reality show, "The Simple Life", which aired from 2003 to 2007.
Richie recounted how at first, he was baffled by their behavior, such as driving backwards on freeways. "And now these two are back together, oh my God, world, hang on to your seat," he exclaimed.
Despite his concerns, Richie emphasized his support for his daughter and Hilton, saying, "I'm very happy for both of them." Nicole Richie has denied that the new series will be a reboot of "The Simple Life", but she did say she and Hilton are "celebrating" the 20th anniversary of their collaboration that "started it all."
The new project remains shrouded in mystery. However, Hilton and Richie have teased the upcoming show on social media by sharing a fuzzy TV screen with static and audio of their signature tune "sanasa, sanasa." The duo has promised a "new era" but "same besties" dynamic.
While Lionel Richie may have joking concerns, he acknowledges the impact that his daughter and Hilton have had on reality television. He advises the world to "hang on to your seat" as they embark on their latest adventure.
