AceShowbiz - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived in Nigeria on Friday, May 10, for their first official international tour since stepping back from their royal duties in 2020. The couple was invited to the African nation by its Chief of Defense Staff, the highest-ranking military official.
Upon their arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the Duke and Duchess were met by Nigerian officials and whisked away through a side door. Meghan was dressed in black trousers and a brown jacket, while Harry wore a black ensemble with an open-necked shirt.
The three-day tour, described as "faux royal engagements" by royal experts, features a packed schedule of activities. On Friday, the couple visited a school, met with the Chief of Defense Staff, and visited injured service members at a military hospital. They also attended a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered, a charity affiliated with Harry's Invictus Games.
Meghan will co-host a Women in Leadership event with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director General of the World Trade Organization, while Harry is scheduled to attend a polo fundraiser on Sunday.
During their previous tenure as working royals, Harry and Meghan embarked on several official international tours, including visits to Australia, Tonga, Fiji, New Zealand, Morocco and Southern Africa. Meghan's Nigerian ancestry, which she discovered through a genealogy test, holds special significance for the couple's connection to the country.
