Despite his health struggles, David had continued to perform until February 2017, when he announced his retirement. According to a source close to the family, David's final days were spent with his loved ones, including Patrick and their other brother, Shaun Cassidy.

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, Patrick described David's last words as, "So much wasted time." This poignant message served as a reminder for Patrick to cherish every moment with those he cared about.

Patrick also spoke about the impact of his brother's career on his own life. "My brother David, from 1970 to 1974, was The Beatles," he said. "There was no bigger star on the planet."
