AceShowbiz - Kate Winslet has revealed ambitious plans to celebrate her upcoming 50th birthday next year with a series of "50 incredible things for 50."
Speaking on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio, the actress, currently 48, said she wants to mark the milestone with meaningful acts of kindness, physical feats, and culinary adventures. "We don't need to keep being given presents," she declared. "We can just do things, put nice things into the world, that's better."
Winslet also opened up about her past romance with Rufus Sewell, her co-star in the Christmas classic "The Holiday." The pair had a brief affair after meeting while working at the Royal Shakespeare Company in the early 1990s.
"I think I must have been 21 or something," Winslet recalled about their relationship. "He's so fantastic and to see him front and center in a way that I think we haven't done on British television for a long, long time, I'm really excited to see what he does."
Despite their former romance, Winslet emphasized that she and Sewell remain close friends. "We're very good friends," she said. "It was never a serious relationship."
Winslet's birthday challenge will involve a variety of activities aimed at enriching her life and making a positive impact on the world. She encouraged listeners to consider similar plans for significant milestones.
"I'm going blind in my old age," she said. "Let's do our fifty incredible things before we're blind."
