'Titanic' star Kate Winslet is adding director to her resume as she's ready to step behind the camera for the first time with the Netflix family drama, 'Goodbye June'.

AceShowbiz - In a major career move, Kate Winslet is gearing up to make her feature film directorial debut with Netflix's contemporary family drama, "Goodbye June". Winslet, known for her roles in "Titanic" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", will not only direct the film but also star in it.

The film is set to go into production in the United Kingdom later this year. The star-studded cast includes Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Helen Mirren, bringing a powerful ensemble to the project.

Joe Anders, Winslet's son with ex-husband Sam Mendes, penned the screenplay, adding a familial touch to the film's creation. Kate Solomon, who produced Winslet's recent movie "Lee", will co-produce alongside Winslet.

"Goodbye June" is described as a "touching, yet humorous" drama revolving aound "a fractured group of siblings [who] pull together under sudden and trying circumstances."

Winslet's decision to direct comes after years of encouragement from peers and an increasing sense of responsibility to contribute to the representation of women in Hollywood.

"So many people will say to me on film sets... 'Why aren't you directing?'... The more I'm not doing it now, with the need to change the culture, the more I feel like I'm actually letting down other women by not doing it," she said in an interview on the How to Fail podcast.

In addition to her upcoming directorial debut, Winslet remains a heavyweight in the acting world. Her role in "Lee" earned her a Golden Globe nomination and the film itself received a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding British film of the year.

"Goodbye June" marks a significant milestone in Winslet's illustrious career and is poised to be an anticipated addition to Netflix's ever-growing library of original films.

Given her extensive experience working under acclaimed directors like James Cameron, Ang Lee, and Sam Mendes, Winslet is well-equipped to take on this new challenge, potentially earning more accolades to her name.
