AceShowbiz - Larry David talked about "Curb Your Enthusiasm" ahead of its last swan song. In the Sunday, April 7 episode of "Today", Larry explained why "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is ending later that night after 12 seasons.
"I'm too old to really be on camera every single week now," David shared. "To act the way I do on this show, how can I continue to act like that? It's insane. Yeah, I can do it in my 50s and 60s to mid-70s. I'm not going into the 80s acting like that!"
He further explained that he has "maybe a shred" of sentimentality about the series ending, adding that he "couldn't imagine ever having more fun in my life than I did doing that show."
Later in the interview, Larry honored Richard Lewis. "It's so hard to believe that he's not here," he said of his late "Curb" co-star, who died in February after suffering a heart attack. "Actually, I talk to him because I feel he's watching me, and I tell him, 'Hey, leave me alone. Keep away.' "
Calling Richard "sweet guy," Larry added, "I loved him." He also said that the comedian's death as a "big loss."
Larry penned a heartfelt tribute after Richard's death was confirmed at the time. "He had that rare combination of being the funniest person and also the sweetest. But today he made me sob and for that I'll never forgive him," he said at the time.
Prior to his appearance on "Today", Larry briefly talked about the highly anticipated finale at "An Evening With Larry David" event in Manhattan. Asked for "Curb" spoilers ahead of the final episode, Larry rolled his eyes in response. He added, "Do you really think I'm going to talk about the 'Curb' finale? Are you nuts?"
The "Seinfeld" co-creator added that he came up with the most comedy on the series spontaneously. "I don't put any thought into that whatsoever," he told MSNBC's Ari Melber of his HBO series. "Zero. I just try to write funny shows. That's all it is. I've never analyzed it."
Ari later mentioned a lengthy theory comparing Larry's character in Woody Allen's "Whatever Works" with his semi-fictional "Curb" depiction. To that, David replied, "I didn't understand any of that." He stressed, "I'm not an intellectual. I'm just an idiot from Brooklyn."
