The former NFL defensive back has finally turned himself in to the authorities after being on the run for weeks amid investigation over alleged domestic abuse.

AceShowbiz - Cameron Sutton, the former NFL defensive back, surrendered to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday night, March 31. Sutton, 29, had been evading authorities for weeks after a domestic violence warrant was issued for his arrest on March 7.

The warrant accused Sutton of domestic battery by strangulation, a third-degree felony punishable by up to five years in prison. According to ESPN, the woman accusing Sutton had physical evidence of injuries.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed relief over Sutton's surrender, stating, "This man has finally made the right choice to turn himself in. Domestic violence has no place in our community, and no one is above the law here in Hillsborough County."

Sutton had previously been seen at the Detroit Lions' training facility after the warrant was issued. Lions president Rod Wood confirmed that Sutton had been at the facility and that staff members had advised him to turn himself in.

Sutton, who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers for six seasons before joining the Lions in 2023, was released by the team after news of the warrant emerged. In his one season with Detroit, Sutton started all 17 regular season games and three postseason games, helping the Lions win a division title for the first time in three decades and reach the NFC Championship game.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office released video of Sutton entering the Oreint Road Jail in handcuffs. Sutton's attorney had contacted the office on March 25, indicating that his client would turn himself in.
