AceShowbiz - Matthew Perry's ex Maeve Quinlan said his death "wasn't a shock" despite leaving her devastated. In an interview, the "Not Easily Broken" star revealed that the "Friends" alum's loved ones had been losing him to addiction over the years.

"It wasn't a shock but I still couldn't believe it happened," the 59-year-old said when speaking to Soap Opera Digest. "And although we hadn't seen each other in a while, I miss him very much."

Maeve, who remained good friends with Matthew after they split in 2003, also admitted that she regretted not reaching out to him after he released his 2022 memoir, "Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing". She explained, "I regret to this day that I did not call Matthew to tell him I was proud of him... It took a lot of guts and bravery for him to write that book and be so brutally honest."

Matthew passed away at the age of 54 in October. He was found dead in a "residential pool" in his home in Los Angeles. According to the autopsy report, the actor died due to "acute effects of ketamine."

During the sit-down, Maeve also reflected on her relationship with Matthew. She said she met the "17 Again" star in the hallway of their apartment building when he was one year sober and the two quickly became "inseparable."

"When Matthew and I embarked on a romantic relationship, he was 100 percent sober and was very open about his previous struggles," she noted. "That was his one fully sober year, and we were practically inseparable. One of the reasons he liked being with me was that I didn't do drugs."

"He was the guy every guy wanted to hang out with and every girl wanted to date. He was the guy next door," she elaborated. "He was kind of unsure of himself. He wasn't, believe it or not, completely confident with girls, even though he dated the likes of Julia Roberts."
