She revealed that the baby arrived at 8:23 am on March 23rd, weighing just shy of seven pounds. She proudly wrote, "Mom and Dad are over the moon, and I am thrilled to have my first grandchild."
Couric then expressed gratitude for the blessing of a grandchild while acknowledging the milestones that Monahan would have celebrated had he been alive. "We feel so blessed," she wrote in her Instagram post. "We'll have more tomorrow in Wake-Up Call," she added, teasing updates about her grandson in her daily newsletter.
The newborn has been named John Albert Dobrosky. However, he will be known by the nickname "Jay" in honor of Couric's late husband, Jay Monahan, who passed away from colon cancer in 1998.
Couric expressed her excitement for her new role as a grandmother, saying, "I'm looking forward to spending time with my grandchild and just doing the fun stuff." She also acknowledged the milestone's sobering reminder of her age but joked that she would "get over that pretty quickly."
The birth of Couric's grandson evoked bittersweet emotions, bringing memories of Monahan's absence.
