AceShowbiz - New "Predator" movie has reportedly found its director. Filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg is set to return to the sci-fi action horror franchise to serve behind the lens for the upcoming film, titled "Badlands".
While the plot details for "Badlands" are still kept under wraps, it is said that it won't be a sequel to 2022's "Prey", which Dan directed. The new flick, however, will have a female lead just like "Prey", which was set in 1719 and centered on a young Comanche woman (played by Amber Midthunder) forced to fight for survival against the intergalactic hunters.
Dan might hint his involvement in "Badlands" in an interview with Polygon in late 2023. "While making ['Prey'], we really enjoyed conjuring up all the special unique things that we could do, not only just in this franchise but also in this genre, that would be unexpected," he said at the time. "Some things happened that are very expected, but some things were very much not. And so all that stuff was and continues to be really fun to think about and explore."
In addition to directing, Dan will write the story alongside Patrick Aison, who pens the screenplay. The production will reportedly start in July. "Prey" marked the biggest-ever premiere on Hulu as it earned the most viewing hours in its first three days among all TV series and movies. It's unknown if "Badlands" will follow the path or if it will be released in theaters.
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura, the first "Predator" movie was released in 1987. Directed by John McTiernan, the flick followed the three commandos being stalked by an alien in the jungle. The success of the original movie spawned three sequels, including "Predator 2" (1990), "Predators" (2010) and "The Predator" (2018).
Meanwhile, "Badlands" isn't the only project that Dan is currently working on. The filmmaker is set to serve as a director on the fifth and final season of Netflix's "Stranger Things". His other credits include "10 Cloverfield Lane" the pilot for "The Boys" and "Black Mirror: Playtest".
