Killer Mike 'Elated' by Son's Kidney Transplant 1 Day After Grammys Arrest

When addressing his arrest at the Sunday, February 4 event, the 'Run' rapper blames 'an over-zealous security guard' for the drama, but he's confident that he will 'be cleared of all wrongdoing.'

AceShowbiz - Killer Mike has another thing to be grateful for following his Grammy wins. In a statement released in the wake of his arrest at the Sunday, February 4 event, the rapper revealed his son's kidney transplant while also addressing the drama at the ceremony.

"I first want to extend my appreciation to the Grammy's Committee for recognizing me and my team for the work that went into 'Michael'," the 48-year-old said in the statement issued on Monday. He added, "We are incredibly proud and are basking in this moment. I am also grateful that one of my prayers has been answered - the day after my Grammy win - I learned that my son, who has been on the list for a kidney for years, finally has a match. Obviously, we are elated."

According to TMZ, Killer Mike's son Mikael "Pony Boy" Render underwent a successful surgery on Monday. The "Scientists & Engineers" hitmaker reportedly was with his 21-year-old son during the surgery.

The Atlanta spitter went on to talk about his arrest at the 2024 Grammy Awards. "I do want to note that last night, my team and I fielded a number of calls from concerned fans and colleagues wanting to know if I was OK," he said. "I greatly appreciate the concern and support, but I am better than OK."

"As you can imagine, there was a lot going and there was some confusion around which door my team and I should enter," the "Run" rhymer explained, before adding, "We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have the upmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing."

Killer Mike concluded his statement by urging people to "keep listening to 'Michael', and keep going after your dreams."

Killer Mike was detained and escorted in handcuffs at the Crypto.com Arena on Sunday after receiving three Grammys during the pre-televised ceremony. At the time, it was reported that he knocked down a security officer after he did not move away fast enough in the pouring rain outside the awards venue.

Footage obtained by TMZ shows the aftermath of the alleged altercation in which other security personnel can be seen trying to stop Killer Mike from getting away. He was hit with a misdemeanor battery charge and released from jail about an hour after he was booked. His court appearance is set for February 28.

When appearing on the "Big Tigger Morning Talk Show", Killer Mike played down the arrest as saying, "Ain't nothing happened. I won them Grammys, we slide, we partied all night." He added, "We hit a speed bump and then we head back to the party, man."
