AceShowbiz - Jill Martin has emotionally vowed to keep fighting amid her battle with cancer. A few months after announcing that she was diagnosed with breast cancer, the "Today" star opened up about her feelings.
On Wednesday, October 25, the 47-year-old TV personality uploaded a photo of her looking somber during what appeared to be a treatment in a hospital room. Over the snap, she simply penned, "And sometimes it is just okay to cry. Just as long as you continue to fight."
The new Story came a few months after Jill revealed that she is suffering from breast cancer. In July, she told PEOPLE that she was stunned after it was confirmed that she has the BRCA gene, which is linked to a higher possibility of developing the disease. "I spit into this tube and I mailed it in and honestly I forgot about it, and three weeks later I got a call saying, 'You tested positive [for BCRA gene],' " she recalled.
"I immediately went into producer mode, that's the only mode I know. I got the names of doctors. I set up appointments. I said to my husband, 'This isn't going to be the summer we thought it was going to be, but thank goodness that we caught it.' I actually felt lucky," the "Steals and Deals" segment host continued.
During the chat, Jill recounted the moment she found out she had cancer. Noting that it happened when she was in a routine preoperative MRI scan, she stated, "I went in and I remember she said it's cancer and I remember saying, 'Is it treatable?' And she said, 'Yes, yes, you're going to be okay.' I'm not telling you I don't break down and cry at some points, but I still felt - still feel lucky."
Since then, Jill has taken a leave of absence from the "Today" show to undergo a mastectomy and additional treatment. About the treatment itself, she explained, "I really would rather not have to have chemotherapy, but if that's something I have to deal with, I'll deal with it."
