AceShowbiz - Ethan Slater is pulling the plug on his marriage to his former high school sweetheart amid dating rumors with Ariana Grande. The actor has reportedly filed for divorce from Lilly Jay, whom he married in 2018.

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the Tony Award nominee filed divorce papers on Wednesday, July 26 in New York to legally end his union with Lilly. The specific reason Ethan's listed for the split is currently unknown.

Meanwhile, Lilly is reportedly devastated her family has been torn apart and feels the Broadway star abandoned his family, just months after they welcomed their first child in August 2022. Sources close to her tell TMZ that she's heartbroken over the fact that her young son won't have both his mom and dad around constantly.

The split is clearly not amicable as the sources note that Ethan and Lilly aren't on good terms now because she feels he has completely turned his back on his family to be with Ariana. She allegedly feels betrayed, especially because it was reported that the "7 Rings" singer used to hang out with both Ethan and Lilly before the actress started dating him.

"It's understandable that emotions are high and it's hard seeing your ex move on, especially in such a public way, and her friends are trying to protect her," additional sources close to the situation say. "But Ari and Ethan are just trying to lay low and be respectful of their exes as they pursue this new relationship."

Ariana and Ethan reportedly connected after they started filming the upcoming "Wicked" movie in London and they were not hiding their feelings for each other on the set. "Ariana and Ethan weren't careful," a source said. "They'd hold hands on set in between takes. They were sloppy and not hiding it."

Ethan reportedly told Lilly about his relationship with Ariana shortly before it became public. "Ethan sat Lilly down a few days before the news broke about him and Ariana and said that he wanted a divorce," a so-called insider told Us Weekly, adding that "Lilly never saw it coming!"

The "Thank U, Next" songstress herself was reported to have called it quits with her husband of two years, Dalton Gomez. "Ariana and Ethan are dating; however things are fairly new. Ariana and Dalton split in January, and Ethan is separated from his wife," a source said earlier this month. "Ariana and Ethan have only recently begun seeing each other but they have a lot of fun together and are enjoying each other's company."
