Ahead of the 'Rocket Man' hitmaker's final show in the U.K., anticipation was running high that the pop superstar will join the British singer onstage to perform their 2022 collaboration 'Hold Me Closer'.

AceShowbiz - Britney Spears' fans have been left disappointed following Elton John's show at Glastonbury. Headlining the festival as part of his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour, the British singer/composer didn't bring out the pop superstar as one of his guests at the Sunday, June 25 concert.

Ahead of Elton's set at Worthy Farm in Pilton, anticipation was running high that the "Hold It Against Me" songstress would join the "Candle in the Wind" crooner onstage to perform their 2022 collaboration "Hold Me Closer". The speculation was allegedly sparked by her own social media posts.

On Friday, the 41-year-old posted a picture of an oil painting featuring McDonald's food and a vase of roses with three Union Jack flags in the caption. In another now-deleted post, she reportedly told fans she was heading to London this week, claiming it was for a shopping trip.

However, as the night went by, it became apparent that Britney would not show up at Elton's show. Instead, Elton brought out The Killers' frontman Brandon Flowers to sing "Tiny Dancer" with him during his set.

Fans quickly took to Twitter to express their disappointment, with one tweeting, "I'm sorry but why the f**k was Britney seen flying into Bristol if she wasn't off to perform with Elton John at Glasto? Why Bristol lol." Another commented, "Justice for every single person who believed that Britney Spears would be joining Elton on stage."

A third claimed they has been "tricked" into watching an Elton John concert, while another fumed, "Can't believe I let myself believe for 24 hours Britney Spears was going to come out." A fifth user echoed the sentiment as writing, "saaaaaaaaaame," as another fan added, "Girl, we all fell for it! Britney's impact is THAT powerful. Can't wait for the real comeback though."

Elton's show at Glastonbury Festival marks his final ever performance in the U.K. The rock star, who has embarked on his farewell tour since 2018, told the crowd during his set, "I want to thank you for all dressing up in your costumes and your glasses and your outfits ... it makes me feel so happy. Thank you for your love."

"And I want to thank you, also, for 52 years of amazing love and loyalty that you've shown me," he said of his fans' support. "It's been an amazing journey and I've had the best, best time. I will never forget you. You're in my head and my heart and my soul. You've been amazing. You've been an incredible crowd tonight. Thanks so much Glastonbury. Thanks so much England. I wish you love and health and happiness."

Elton also performed with Jacob Lusk, Stephen Sanchez and Rina Sawayama on what he dubbed "a very special and emotional night" for him.
