AceShowbiz - Ed Sheeran is not playing when it comes to protecting his integrity. The "Shape of You" hitmaker vowed that he'll be "done" with music if he's found guilty of ripping off Marvin Gaye's song.

The English singer made the declaration during a Monday, May 1 trial in federal court in Manhattan. "If that happens, I'm done, I'm stopping," he said. "I find it really insulting to devote my whole life to being a performer and a songwriter and have someone diminish it."

For the record, Ed has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit for allegedly copying Marvin's hit "Let's Get It On". The case was brought by Kathryn Griffin Townsend, the heir of late songwriter Ed Townsend who co-wrote the 1973 classic soul hit.

The accusation emerged after Ed performed a mash-up of his hit "Thinking Out Loud" and "Let's Get It On" in a 2014 concert footage. The Grammy winner, however, has defended himself during a previous trial.

"You could go from 'Let it Be' to 'No Woman, No Cry' and switch back," Ed said while taking the stand in a New York federal court on April 25. "If I had done what you're accusing me of doing, I'd be a quite an idiot to stand on a stage in front of 20,000 people and do that. It is my belief that most pop songs are built on building blocks that have been freely available for 100s of years."

Ed insisted he often mashes together songs with similar chords at his concerts and named a number of other tracks that shared the same progressions, including "Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi and Van Morrison's "Crazy Love", before growing frustrated when his response was cut off. He said, "I feel like you don't want me to answer because you know that what I'm going to say is actually going to make quite a lot of sense."
