AceShowbiz - Lizzo has a special treat for fans. The singer/rapper, who just won Record of the Year at the 2023 Grammy Awards, released the remix version of her latest album's title track "Special" featuring SZA on Thursday, February 9.
In the opening verse, SZA sings, "Woke up this morning to somebody judging me/ No surprise they judging me, don't know who I'm 'posed to be." She goes on, "I'm just acting up, I'm pressed as f**k and never saying sorry/ Found it in the end, I can only do it for me."
"You call sensitive and I call it superpower/ You just like empathy 'cause you think it gives you power," the 33-year-old, born Solana Imani Rowe, continues. "All I know is only God can judge me/ I don't hide my heart, I wear it on me."
The lyrics seemingly represent Lizzo's feelings when she faced criticism last year. "After 'Rumors', I received a lot of backlash," she told Apple Music about the tune when it came out. "I think it was because people hadn't heard from me since Cuz I Love You, and this was their opportunity to attack me because I was visible, you know?"
"But I turn my pain into music. I turn my pain into profit. I make it work for me," Lizzo added. "So I went into the studio to write a song for myself that would remind me how special I am."
Lizzo previously hinted at her collaboration with SZA back in November 2022. Sharing a video of the two with a snippet of the remix playing over the clip, she wrote on Twitter, "Something Special coming your way soon… @sza."
