During a new interview, the 18-year-old former star of TLC's 'Jon and Kate Plus 8' gets candid as he talks about what actually leads to the distance between him and his estranged mom.

AceShowbiz - Collin Gosselin broke his silence on his estranged relationship with his mom Kate Gosselin. During a rare interview, the 18-year-old former reality star got candid as he talked about what actually led to the distance between the pair.

"I want to believe it was because of TV and what being in the public eye does to a family," Collin, who is the son of Kate and Jon Gosselin, told Entertainment Tonight. "I think it tore us apart. It gave us less time to actually be together as a family."

The "Jon & Kate Plus 8" alum went on to detail what happened after he was put in an institution to help him deal with his alleged behavioral issues. "After being there, I didn't have a relationship with her," Collin shared. "Even before [being] there, I don't think we had much of a relationship and I think that just kept tearing it even more down."

Thinking back to his childhood, Collin said that it "was worse than what you would say the average teenage kid goes through with their parent." He went on noting that he learned some lessons that have helped him understand and contextualize his tough childhood.

"I came to the conclusion that everybody has their own agenda, you know?" he explained. "My mom had her own agenda, and I don't know exactly what that was. But I was put in a tough spot and my agenda was to make it out on top of that tough spot."

When asked if he's open to the possibility of reconciliation with his mom, Collin, who is now living with dad Jon and sister Hannah, said it would be "ideal" for him. "It's unfortunate that we didn't have a relationship. I think every son wants to have a relationship with their mom. But I'm doing very well," he shared. He also said that he hasn't talked with his other siblings for like 6 or 7 years.

During the interview, Collin additionally reflected on the lessons he learned from his time in the spotlight. "I want to say that in life we all go through hard things. We all get knocked down, we all experience really, really difficult things," he shared. "But don't sit around and mourn and cry about it, address the situation you're in and fix it and come out on top of it. Because resilience is a really important thing."

He continued, "My one message to everybody, to the world, in general, is just be kind to people. It's really not that hard, you know? Be kind, talk to people, hear other people's stories, just spread kindness."
