The 'Saturday Night Live' alum is allegedly on the road to recovery and feels thankful to have survived a violent assault in Manhattan, New York City recently.

AceShowbiz - Chris Redd is reportedly recuperating after being attacked outside a New York City comedy club last week. The 37-year-old former "Saturday Night Live" star was punched by an assailant wearing a knuckleduster outside the Comedy Cellar venue in Manhattan on Wednesday night, October 26, leaving him with two black eyes and a broken nose, but TMZ.com now reports he's on the mend and is said to be feeling "very happy and fortunate."

A man approached Chris and punched him in the face before running off when the comedian was heading to the club to perform a 15-minute set. Members of staff rushed to his aid and the star was later admitted to hospital to treat his injuries.

TMZ reports the comedian had a chain snatched from around his neck during the attack, but he was later able to recover the jewellery. After the attack, police have been appealing for help tracing the person responsible.

According to the New York Post, the alleged attacker is described as between 35 and 40 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs about 280 pounds. They have released surveillance footage which appears to show the alleged attacker caught on camera close to the comedy venue.

The publication reports police do not believe the attack is linked to a headline-grabbing street challenge called the "knockout game" which has been blamed for a number of attacks across the US in which unwitting victims are punched at random by strangers on the street.
