Hailing from Gary, Indiana, Jesse was discovered by Louis Silas Jr., the founder of an MCA Records imprint, Silas Records. Jesse released his self-titled debut album in March 1996, featuring singles like "All I Need", "Gloria" and "I Like It".

However, it was "You" which became the biggest hit of the set. In 1998, he followed up his first record with his sophomore album " 'Bout It" which again included "You". The set also boasted the lead single "I Wasn't with It", which became Jesse's first single to chart on the Billboard Hot 100. "You" was released as the second single of the album and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard R&B chart and No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking his first Top 10 hit.

Jesse released his last album "Jesse" in 2003 before his retirement from the music industry. In his later years, he collaborated with other artists on their music and in television production.
