Prince Harry, who stepped back as a senior member of the royal family in 2020 along with his wife, reportedly was heading to his grandmother's Balmoral estate at the time of her passing.

AceShowbiz - Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are mourning the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The couple, who stepped back as senior members of the royal family in 2020, took to their Archewell Foundation website to honor the late matriarch.

The page shows a black screen with a simple message written in white letters. "In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II," it read, adding the dates of her life, "1926-2022."

Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Thursday, September 8 at Balmoral, her estate in Scotland. Harry was heading to the castle at the time of her passing without his wife. Unfortunately, he didn't seem to make it in time.

Confirming the queen's death, Buckingham Palace said in a statement, "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon." The message added, "The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

Following his mom's passing, Prince Charles declared in a statement, "The death of my beloved Mother. Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family." The newly-appointed King continued, "We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved mother."

"I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world," Prince Charles further noted. "During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."

Queen Elizabeth died after her husband Prince Philip passed away in April 2021 at the age of 99. She celebrated her official Platinum Jubilee in June. At that time, she made two appearances on the Buckingham Palace balcony during Trooping the Colour and a third, unannounced, appearance at the Platinum Pageant.

The queen is survived by her children, Charles, Anne, Andrew, and Edward, and eight grandchildren, Prince William, Prince Harry, Peter Phillips, Zara Phillips, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Lady Louse Windsor and James, Viscount Severn.
