AceShowbiz - Lizzo was among the winners at the 2022 MTV VMAs, which took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Sunday, August 28. The "Truth Hurts" hitmaker took home the award for Video for Good, thanks to her hit track "About Damn Time".
During her acceptance speech, Lizzo brought laughter to the audience as she hilariously imitated Nicki Minaj's infamous "Miley, what's good?" moment at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. Donning a black dress, Lizzo said onstage, "And now, to the b***h that has guts to say something about me in the press." She then continued, "You know what? I'm not going to say nothing. They'd be like, 'Lizzo, why don't you clap back? Why don't you clap back?' 'Cause b***h, I'm winning, h*e."
Back in 2015, Nicki hit back at Miley Cyrus after the "Wrecking Ball" artist spoke about the femcee in an interview with The New York Times ahead of MTV VMAs. At the time, Miley, who served as the host at the ceremony, criticized Nicki for complaining that "Anaconda" wasn't included in the Video of the Year category.
Nicki addressed the matter during her award acceptance speech while picking up the award for Best Hip Hop Video at the ceremony. Before ending her speech, the Trinidadian star said, "And now... back to this b***h that had a lot to say about me in the press. Miley, what's good?"
Meanwhile, Lizzo's speech arrived after Aries Spears body-shamed the musician in a video shared on YouTube. "I can't get past the fact that she looks like the s**t emoji," he said. "Very beautiful girl. She's got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off like, come on, man. Come on, yo."
"I'm sorry. Listen, I ain't the most in-shape n***a in the world but I still, when you funny and you got swagger and confidence and you decent looking - I think I'm at least handsome - you get p***y," he argued. "But a woman that's built like a plate of mashed potatoes is in trouble."
Fans quickly defended Lizzo with one saying, "I'm not RTing that video but Aries Spears is filled with a bunch of self hate. That was disgusting to watch. I couldn't even finish. So hateful, hypocritical, and delusion." Mike Epps also jumped to Lizzo's defense as the 51-year-old comedian said, "He look dirty and sick and has not been on tv since mad tv."
That aside, Lizzo sparked memes with her voluminous gown while gracing the red carpet of the 2022 MTV VMAs. The 34-year-old star might be the night's most-memed attendee as she showed up in her voluminous navy blue Jean Paul Gaultier Couture gown.
For the big event, Lizzo completed the look with dramatic Lael Osness gloves and Jennifer Fisher jewels, including multi-hoop earrings and even a faux lip ring. She also matched the style with blue lipstick.
Internet users were quick to make memes based on Lizzo's gown. Some people likened it to a garbage bag, bed linens and "Little Mermaid" villain Ursula among others. The singer herself also poked fun at her voluminous gown. Alongside pictures of her red carpet look, Lizzo wrote on Twitter, "My stylist: How much fabric do you wanna wear? Me: Yes."
