Writer and director Matt Reeves makes appearance at Warner Bros.' panel at CinemaCon in Las Vegas where the announcement is made, saying, 'This is thrilling for me.'

AceShowbiz - "The Batman" sequel is officially happening with the original cast and crew on board. Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group Boss Toby Emmerich broke the news at CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
During the studio's presentation on Tuesday, April 26, the studio announced that the Caped Crusader depicter Robert Pattinson, writer/director Matt Reeves "and the whole team will be taking audiences back to Gotham in 'The Batman 2'."
Reeves also made an appearance at the panel to confirm his return. "This is thrilling for me," he shared. While he didn't share any details of the sequel, he admitted he is a fan of Pattinson's character and "is excited to jump back into this world for the next chapter."
The "Cloverfield" helmer also took the opportunity to thank fans of the movie for their support. "Thank you all for your tremendous support for 'The Batman'. We couldn't have gotten here without the faith and enthusiasm of all your teams around the world," he said on the stage.
The news arrives as "The Batman" has crossed $700 million worldwide. Grossing $134 million in its opening weekend, it became the second pandemic-era film to gross over $100 million in the U.S. and Canada in its opening weekend, after "Spider-Man: No Way Home". With $759 million globally, it has now become the highest-grossing film of 2022 as well as the highest-grossing serial killer film.
The gritty superhero movie follows Batman, who has been fighting crime in Gotham City for two years, as he uncovers corruption while pursuing the Riddler (Paul Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite. Zoe Kravitz, Colin Farrell, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis also star in the film.
A Batman spin-off series centering on Farrell's Penguin is currently in the works for HBO Max. Reeves previously opened up about their plans for the franchise at the U.K. premiere of the movie. "I really believe in what we've done and I'd be excited to tell more stories…," he dished, "We are already telling other stories in the streaming space, we're doing stuff on HBO Max, we're doing a Penguin show with Colin [Farrell], which is gonna be super cool."
