The 'Dakiti' hitmaker makes a surprise appearance at CinemaCon to announce his role as Marvel's first live-action Latino lead in the upcoming superhero movie.

AceShowbiz - Bad Bunny is gearing up to save the world. The Puerto Rican musician has landed his biggest role to date as he is cast as the lead in Spider-Man new spin-Off "El Muerto" for Sony Pictures.

The project was announced at CinemaCon during Sony's panel on Monday, April 25. Sony Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch broke the news, revealing that the movie is scheduled for a January 12, 2024 release in the U.S., while Bad Bunny also made a surprise appearance. "To bring El Muerto to life is just incredible .. so exciting," he told the crowd.

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, will star as El Muerto, Marvel's first live-action Latino lead in the movie. The character, known as Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez in the comics, is described as a wrestler whose powers are handed down by ancestry in the form of a mask.

In the comics, El Muerto has squared off with Spider-Man in the ring. According to Panitch, the upcoming movie will depict the character as an antihero on the verge of inheriting his father's power.

While the casting news is rather surprising, Bad Bunny isn't new to acting. The 28-year-old, who grew up a fan of wrestling, made his acting debut in "F9: The Fast Saga" as Lookout and landed a recurring role on "Narcos: Mexico" as Arturo "Kitty" Paez. He will make his major studio debut in the highly-anticipated action pic "Bullet Train" starring Brad Pitt, due out on July 29.

At the CinemaCon, he gushed about starring on "Bullet Train", calling it "an amazing experience." He added, "David (Leitch) is awesome. I loved working with him on my first film and now with this opportunity to bring El Muerto to life. It's amazing, it's incredible. I love wrestling. I grew up watching wrestling and I'm a wrestler. I'm a former champion so this is why I love this character. I think it's the perfect role to me and it will be epic."
