While opening the biggest night in music industry, the host pokes fun at the 'King Richard' actor, who slapped the 'Saturday Night Live' alum at the 2022 Oscars for cracking a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head.

AceShowbiz - Following the 2022 Academy Awards, another big event in Hollywood was held on Sunday, April 3. At the 2022 Grammy Awards, host Trevor Noah didn't mince his words as he appeared to address the infamous Will Smith and Chris Rock drama at the Oscars.

"We're gonna be listening to some music," the 38-year-old "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" host said while opening the show. "We're gonna be dancing, we're gonna be singing. We're gonna be keeping people's names out of our mouths, and we're gonna be giving out awards."

He was referring to Will's words to Chris at the March 27 event, where the "King Richard" star walked on stage and slapped the comedian for joking about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head. "Keep my wife's name out of your f**king mouth," Will yelled at the "Saturday Night Live" alum after he returned to his seat. "Wow, dude," replied Chris, "It was a 'G.I. Jane' joke." Will reiterated, "Keep my wife's name out of your f**king mouth."

Trevor previously reacted to the viral moment on Twitter. Immediately after it occurred, the comedian expressed his shock in a tweet which read, "Wtaf????? That wasn't scripted?????"

As for Will, who won best actor award for his performance in "King Richard" later that night, issued an apology to Chris in a statement a day later. "Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable," the actor wrote via Instagram before explaining that hearing "a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally."

"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness," he continued. Meanwhile, it was reported that Chris decided not to pressing charges against Will even though it was revealed that the options were there.
