This year's African American Film Critics Association Awards also sees Jennifer Hudson being named Best Actress for her portrayal of Aretha Franklin in 'Respect'.

AceShowbiz - Winners of the 2022 African American Film Critics Association Awards (AAFCA) have been fully revealed. "The Harder They Fall" and "King Richard" won big at the 13th annual event with four trophies each.
Among the awards that "The Harder They Fall" received were Best Picture, Best Director for The Bullitts a.k.a. Jeymes Samuel as well as Best Ensemble. The western film also snagged Best Music for The Bullitts, Kid Cudi and Jay-Z.
As for "King Richard", it collected awards of Best Actor for Will Smith, Best Supporting Actress for Aunjanue Ellis and Breakout Actor for Saniyya Sidney. The biopic, which narrates the life of Serena Williams and Venus Williams' father Richard Williams, additionally earned Reinaldo Marcus Green the Emerging Director award.
Jennifer Hudson, meanwhile, was hailed as Best Actress for her portrayal of Aretha Franklin in "Respect". Also picking up an acting award was Corey Hawkins, who nabbed Best Supporting Actor for playing Macduff in "The Tragedy of Macbeth".
Winning Best Screenplay category was "Don't Look Up", which is directed by Adam McKay. "Who We Are" won Best Independent Feature award, while "Summer of Soul" was honored as Best Documentary.
The winners will be celebrated at a ceremony on March 2. The event is set to take place at the SLS Hotel in Los Angeles, California with a limited capacity audience and health and safety protocols.
"It's been a fantastic year for film," AAFCA president and co-founder Gil Robertson said. "Just having passed the two-year mark of a global pandemic, great entertainment means more to all of us than ever before. This year's AAFCA winners not only entertained us, but educated and inspired us and we're looking forward to celebrating them at the AAFCA Awards."
