The Queen guitarist blames the press for 'subtly twisting' the remarks he recently made when he was asked about diversity and cancel culture in a TV event.

AceShowbiz - Queen star Brian May has blasted "predatory Press hacks" for twisting his words and making him seem anti-trans.

The rocker insists controversial remarks he recently made about the trans community were "subtly twisted" to make him look bad.

May was asked to comment about diversity and cancel culture following a TV event in London.

"I'm sure... we (Queen) would be forced to have people of different colours and different sexes and a trans person, but life doesn't have to be like that," he was quoted as saying, while appearing to criticise the bosses of the Brit Awards for opting to make all their artist awards non-binary, beginning in 2022.

Brian attempted to clarify his comments via Instagram on Sunday (28Nov21), writing "predatory Press hacks (sic)" made him come across as "unfriendly to trans people."

"I was ambushed and completely stitched up by a journalist at the recent ITV event," he explained, "and it's led to a whole mess of press stories making it look like I'm unfriendly to trans people. Nothing could be further from the truth. My words were subtly twisted. I should have known better than to talk to those predatory Press hacks."

"Sincere apologies to anyone who has been hurt by the stories. My heart is open as always to humans of all colours, all creeds, all sexes and sexualities, all shapes and sizes - and all creatures. We all deserve respect and an equal place in this world. And my grateful thanks to all of you who stepped up to defend me in the last couple of days. It means so much that you have faith in me."
