The 'Sailing' singer gets candid about his new album delay, admitting he puts the record on hold until next year to avoid Adele and secure the top spot on the chart.

AceShowbiz - Rod Stewart is having second thoughts about releasing his new album on Friday (19Nov21) because he can't compete with Adele for a number one.
The "Sailing" singer was hoping "The Tears of Hercules" would become his eighth number one in the U.K. but he now knows that's not going to happen, with Adele releasing "30" on the same day.
"I'd rather not have this album coming out right now with Adele and... Sting," Rod tells the BBC. "Everybody's got an album coming out now. So I wanted my eighth number one album, so I wanted it to come out in the summer."
"I don't care about how many copies it sells. I just like that number one. People remember number ones."
Sting's new album, "The Bridge", is also released on Friday.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift avoided a chart clash with Adele by moving her new album, "Red (Taylor's Version)", up a week to secure the number one spot around the world this week.
Adele is expected to dominate the global albums charts next week, with experts expecting massive sales, which should keep her on top for multiple weeks.
Ahead of the record's release, the "Hello" hitmaker responded to those who have said she should "shake up" her sound on the internet.
She said, "When the Easy On Me snippet came out, I go online for, like, five seconds just to make sure the label have put it out properly and I see these comments … Not many, and it's normally huge fans of other artists, saying: 'Oh, when is she gonna shake up her sound?' Why would I shake up my sound? No one else is doing my sound, so why would I change it up?"
