Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello Announce Split After 2 Years of Dating

The former couple, who started their romantic relationship in July 2019, assures heartbroken fans that they will continue be best friends despite calling it quits.

AceShowbiz - Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's love journey is over. On Wednesday, November 17, the pair took to their respective Instagram Stories to announce that they had decided to end their romantic relationship amicably.

"Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever," their joint statement read. The former couple then assured fans that they will continue be best friends despite calling it quits.

The "Senorita" collaborators added, "We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends. We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward."

Fans unsurprisingly were heartbroken upon learning of the news. "Damn, I thought they would get married," someone said. "But I'm sobbing here but I'll respect them in and as a person," another fan wrote in an Instagram comment.

Some others, meanwhile, were skeptical over their relationship from the get-go as they believed it was just a PR stunt for "Senorita". "the fake relationship is finally over," one user noted. Echoing the sentiment, another person added, "omg finally the pr is ending."

The split announcement came as a surprise since just two weeks ago, the pair celebrated Dia de los Muertos together. They opted for couple costumes for the Mexican holiday which is a day celebration for family and friends to gather and pay their respects to those who have died.

Camila and Shawn started dating in July 2019, shortly after they released the steamy music video for "Senorita". As some questioned whether they were just faking their romance, Shaw shut down the speculations in an interview with paparazzi at LAX. "We're definitely not a publicity stunt," so the "Stitches" hitmaker insisted at the time.

As for Camila, she revealed to Elle in an October 2019 interview that she kept their relationship private "to protect it." The Cuba native, who dated Matthew Hussey prior to dating Shawn, explained, "I don't know, people can say whatever they want. They can speculate, but at the same time, we are going to live our own lives, enjoy it and fall for each other like nobody is watching. That is how I want to live. I never want to open the door for people to feel like they are involved. Like I said, I want it to be mine and [his]. That's why I'm so tight-lipped about it."
