AceShowbiz - Grimes has formed an "AI girl group" named NPC.
According to a press release, the virtual group has infinite members that "can be voted in or out, except for core members such as the baby WarNymph."
The project will serve as "a vehicle for experimentation in new technologies as they become available," including "generative characters and music, (different) types of animation, AI-assisted art as well as spiritual technology."
"NPC can do all the things humans cannot," it says. "NPC will eventually be playable, customizable, and able to cater to each individual listener's unique desires. Decentralized Popstardom. Made, not Born."
It will also allow Grimes to "create as other people in order to reduce the psychic pain of being in the public eye."
The musician launched the venture with "A Drug From God" - a new collaboration with producer and DJ Chris Lake. The track is out now across digital platforms.
Grimes previously said she struggled with "huge stage fright" and much preferred being "more of a behind-the-scenes person."
"For me, I feel like I'm a writer and a producer and I love designing performances and stuff, but … I just have really bad mental health effects from being a front person," she said.
"I want to really care about making beats. I want to really care about all this stuff. And when my career first started, everyone was sh**ting on my appearance because I didn't wear makeup," she lamented, adding, "and then I just slowly started feeling this pressure to be physically beautiful or whatever."
"Now that I'm getting older, I'm like man, I hate that. I don't care about that. I just want to make cool stuff."
