AceShowbiz - Jon Gosselin has offered more details regarding his relationship with Colleen Conrad after he called it quits in August. In a new interview, the former star of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" revealed that he helps his ex-girlfriend during her cancer treatment as they remain "friends."
"We had ongoing issues previous to our breakup and previous to her diagnosis, so we...didn't really want any stress during her treatment," the 44-year-old star said when making an appearance on "The Dr. Oz Show". He added, "We thought it was best that we just stop our relationship and work on our friendship and get her through her treatment."
Jon explained further that he "helped her through cancer, insurance and everything else." The "Couples Therapy" alum added, "I supported her through her cancer. It was easier as friends to break off the relationship and get her through that as well."
Jon went on to describe their breakup as "definitely mutual," and stressed that they were still close. He then shared, "I'll always love Colleen and we're friends and it wasn't because of cancer." The reality TV star also noted that his former partner was still close to his children and described her as "a big part of Colin and Hannah's life."
Elsewhere during the conversation, Jon admitted that the split was good for him as he was able to concentrate on various aspects of his life. "It was good for my kids too, that I focus on them as well and focus on other things that were going on in my life, other projects and work as well," the media figure added. "Then I could really focus on helping my friend get through her cancer."
When he was asked about the criteria of his ideal partner, Jon, who dated Colleen for seven years, answered, "I want stability and a nice person, just like I always have looked for in the past." He went on to point out that he needs "someone to roll with the punches."
Jon and Colleen began dating in 2014, five years after he finalized his divorce from Kate Gosselin. Jon announced their split in August. "It's hard, it was a big decision. We have been together for seven years which is a long time, so it's very upsetting," he said at that time. "It's really hard to even talk about it. When you're with someone that long, especially in the public eye and she's someone private."
